Nocturn Industries Talon
The Nocturn Industries Talon, also known as the Ultralight Night Vision Monocular (U.N.V.M.), is a lightweight, full-featured monocular designed around Nocturn's carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic architecture.
The Talon combines manual gain, onboard IR illumination, multiple battery options, PVS-14 mounting compatibility, and a streamlined single-knob control system in a housing designed to reduce both weight and overall bulk.
In its CR123A configuration, the housing weighs approximately 53 grams, making the Talon an exceptionally lightweight alternative to a traditional PVS-14-style monocular.
Every custom Talon system purchased from Quad Defense is professionally assembled, purged, tested, and verified before shipment and is backed by the QDEF 5-Year Warranty.

Important: The base price does not include an image intensifier tube. Your final system price is determined by the image intensifier, optics, and available configuration options selected above.
QDEF offers multiple image intensifier performance levels and optical packages, allowing the Talon to be configured around your performance requirements, weight goals, and budget.
All image intensifiers used in QDEF custom builds are hand-selected. If you have specific requirements for SNR, EBI, halo, cosmetics, or other tube specifications, contact us before ordering and we'll help determine current availability.

Single-Knob Control Interface
The Talon uses a single tactile control knob to manage the primary functions of the monocular.
Pressing and holding the control powers the device on or off, while detented rotation adjusts manual gain when configured with a compatible image intensifier.
A double tap activates the onboard IR illuminator. When IR is active, rotating the control adjusts illuminator brightness, while a single tap disables IR.
The same control interface can also be used to enable or disable the Talon's automatic stow shutoff function.
Manual Gain & Image Intensifier Compatibility
The Talon supports standard EGAC MX-11769 image intensifiers as well as compatible 3-pad MX-11769-style image intensifiers without requiring housing modification.
When configured with a compatible manual-gain image intensifier, the Talon's control knob provides direct adjustment of image brightness.

Power & Runtime
The Talon ships standard with a CR123A battery cap and can also be configured with optional AA and CR2 battery caps.
The interchangeable battery-cap design allows the power source to be changed without replacing the housing, providing flexibility based on battery preference and field logistics.
Runtime is approximately 50 hours when configured with CR123A or AA power, depending on battery type, system configuration, and use of onboard IR.
Ultralight Housing Construction
The Talon housing is manufactured from a carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composite designed to reduce weight while maintaining the structural durability required for field use.
In its CR123A configuration, the housing weighs approximately 53 grams.
The Talon is designed, machined, molded, and assembled in the United States.
Talon & Raptor Ecosystem
The Talon's image-intensifier pod is designed to be interchangeable with the Nocturn Raptor binocular platform.
This shared architecture provides additional flexibility for users operating within the Nocturn ecosystem and allows compatible components to be incorporated into different system configurations.
Optics Options
The Talon can be configured with multiple optical packages depending on your priorities for weight, optical performance, durability, and budget.
- MBS ULR — An ultralight optical package designed to minimize overall system weight.
- Mil-Spec — Traditional mil-spec PVS-14 pattern optics using Carson-pattern glass supplied by Noctis Technologies or Night Vision Devices (NVD), depending on current availability. This option provides proven mil-spec optical performance, durability, and broad compatibility.
- RPO 4.0 — Premium lightweight optics designed to significantly reduce overall system weight while maintaining excellent optical performance.

Mounting Compatibility
The Talon is compatible with standard PVS-14 J-arms and accessories, allowing it to integrate with the broad ecosystem of commonly available helmet mounting hardware.
This provides the weight savings and control system of the Talon without requiring the user to adopt a proprietary monocular mounting system.
QDEF Build Process
A custom Talon ordered through Quad Defense is built as a complete night vision system—not simply assembled from selected parts and shipped.
Each QDEF custom build is professionally assembled, inspected, purged, tested, and verified before it leaves our bench. The complete monocular is evaluated for proper function and overall system performance before shipment.
Current lead time for custom QDEF night vision builds is approximately 6–8 business days once all required components are in stock. Special-order components or specific image intensifier requirements may extend that timeline.
Warranty
Complete QDEF-built night vision systems are backed by the Quad Defense 5-Year Warranty.
Nocturn Industries also provides its applicable manufacturer warranty on the Talon housing. Manufacturer warranty terms and coverage are determined by Nocturn Industries.
Shipping
All night vision systems ship free via 2-Day Air. Night vision shipments are fully insured and require a signature at delivery.
