MBS ULR Ultra Light Rugged Optics Set

The MBS ULR (Ultra Light Rugged) Optics Set is a lightweight, ruggedized objective and eyepiece package designed for night vision systems using standard PVS-14-pattern optics.

MBS combines lightweight optical assemblies with reinforced aluminum objective and diopter interfaces, targeting two common priorities in a modern night vision build: reducing overall system weight while maintaining durability at critical mechanical interfaces.

At approximately 98g per complete objective and eyepiece set, MBS ULR provides a substantial weight reduction compared with traditional Noctis mil-spec optics while retaining the familiar PVS-14-pattern optical architecture.

Why Choose MBS ULR Optics?

  • Approximately 98g per complete optical set
  • Designed for PVS-14-pattern optical interfaces
  • Reinforced aluminum objective sleeve
  • Aluminum ruggedized diopter assembly
  • 40Β° field of view
  • F/1.23 objective
  • 72 lp/mm specified resolution
  • Lightweight alternative to traditional Mil-Spec glass
  • Available for compatible monocular and binocular configurations

Ultra Light. Ruggedized.

Reducing optical weight can make a meaningful difference in the completed weight of a night vision system, particularly with binocular configurations where the objective and eyepiece assemblies are duplicated.

A complete MBS ULR objective and eyepiece set weighs approximately 98g, compared with approximately 126g for the referenced Noctis optical set.

That represents approximately 28g of weight savings per optical set. On a binocular system using two complete sets of optics, the difference increases to approximately 56g β€” nearly 2 oz removed from the completed system.

That's approximately a 22% reduction in optical-set weight compared with the referenced Noctis configuration.

Reinforced Aluminum Interfaces

MBS designed the ULR around more than weight reduction. Both the objective and eyepiece assemblies incorporate reinforced aluminum interfaces at critical mechanical areas.

The objective uses an aluminum sleeve, while the eyepiece is paired with the Steele Industries Lightweight Rugged Diopter and diopter lock ring.

This construction is intended to increase durability around areas that can be susceptible to damage from impacts and drops while maintaining the lightweight design of the complete optical package.

Optical Performance

MBS specifies the ULR optical system at 72 lp/mm resolution with a traditional 40Β° field of view.

According to MBS optical testing, the ULR system demonstrates strong flare suppression and contrast along with approximately 8% greater light transmission than the referenced Noctis optics.

The objective uses an F/1.23 optical design with a specified spectral range of 530–910nm.

Compatibility

MBS ULR optics are designed for housings that accept standard PVS-14-pattern objective and eyepiece assemblies.

This makes the ULR system suitable for a wide range of compatible monocular and binocular night vision housings, whether used in a new build or as part of an existing system upgrade.

Compatibility ultimately depends on the specific housing and configuration. If you're unsure whether MBS ULR optics will work with your system, contact QDEF and we'll verify the configuration before ordering.

  • Binocular Set: Two MBS ULR objective assemblies, two MBS ULR eyepiece assemblies, and applicable locking hardware

MBS ULR vs. Mil-Spec & RPO

QDEF offers three primary optical configurations across many of our custom night vision systems: MBS ULR, Mil-Spec Noctis/NVD, and RPO 4.0.

Mil-Spec Noctis/NVD is the traditional choice for proven optical performance, durability, and broad compatibility.

MBS ULR combines significant weight reduction with reinforced aluminum interfaces, making it particularly attractive for users who want a lightweight optical package with additional attention paid to mechanical durability.

RPO Ultralight is another premium lightweight option designed around reducing the weight of the objective and eyepiece assemblies for lightweight night vision builds.

Each has a different balance of weight, construction, optical characteristics, and cost. The right choice depends on the housing, intended use, and priorities of the complete system.

Building a Lightweight Night Vision System?

Optics are only one part of total system weight. Housing selection, image intensifiers, battery configuration, mounting hardware, and optics all contribute to the final weight and balance of a completed night vision device.

Quad Defense can help match the appropriate housing, image intensifiers, and optical package to your performance, durability, weight, and budget requirements.

QDEF COMPLIANCE // U.S. EXPORT CONTROL

Export &
ITAR Compliance

Certain products, components, technical data, and services offered by Quad Defense may be controlled under United States export-control laws and regulations.

These requirements may include the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), or other applicable U.S. laws and regulations.

Customers are responsible for understanding and complying with the export-control requirements applicable to the products or information they purchase, receive, transfer, resell, or otherwise provide to others.

IMPORTANT // EXPORT RESTRICTIONS

Do not export, re-export, transfer, release, or provide controlled products, technical data, or services to a foreign person, foreign destination, or unauthorized end user without first determining whether U.S. Government authorization is required.

This includes transfers that may occur inside the United States when controlled technical data or other controlled items are released to a foreign person.

01 // ITAR

What Is ITAR?

The International Traffic in Arms Regulations are administered by the U.S. Department of State's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC).

ITAR governs defense articles, defense services, and related technical data identified on the United States Munitions List, as well as certain exports, temporary imports, reexports, retransfers, and other controlled transactions.

Not every product sold by Quad Defense is necessarily ITAR-controlled. Export classification depends on the specific product, component, technology, technical data, and transaction.

02 // CONTROLLED PRODUCTS

Night Vision & Related Equipment

Night vision products and related equipment may be subject to U.S. export-control restrictions depending on their classification, configuration, technical characteristics, origin, and intended destination or end user.

Some products may fall under ITAR jurisdiction while others may be controlled under the Export Administration Regulations or another regulatory framework.

The absence of an β€œITAR” label on a product page should not be interpreted as confirmation that the product is unrestricted for international transfer.

03 // U.S. PERSONS + FOREIGN PERSONS

Who May Receive Controlled Items?

Export-control rules can restrict who may receive certain products, technical data, or defense services.

ITAR distinguishes between U.S. persons and foreign persons. The applicable regulatory definitions should be used when determining whether a particular transfer or release requires authorization.

Citizenship alone should not be used as the sole test for every export-control determination.

04 // EXPORTS + TRANSFERS

Authorization May Be Required

Depending on the item and circumstances, U.S. Government authorization may be required before a controlled product or technical data may be:

  • Exported from the United States
  • Re-exported from one foreign country to another
  • Retransferred to a different end user or end use
  • Released or provided to a foreign person
  • Sold or transferred to another party for a different destination or purpose
  • Used to furnish a controlled defense service

Applicable licenses, agreements, exemptions, exceptions, or other authorizations must be determined before the transaction occurs.

05 // RESALE

Resale Does Not Remove Export Restrictions

Purchasing a product from Quad Defense and later reselling or transferring it does not eliminate applicable U.S. export-control restrictions.

Customers who resell controlled products are responsible for ensuring that subsequent transfers comply with applicable export-control laws, end-user restrictions, destination restrictions, licensing requirements, and other regulatory obligations.

Where appropriate, downstream purchasers should also be informed that the product may be subject to U.S. export-control restrictions.

06 // TECHNICAL DATA

Technical Information May Also Be Controlled

Export controls may apply not only to physical hardware but also to certain technical information associated with controlled products.

Depending on its content and classification, controlled technical data may include certain detailed information relating to the design, development, production, manufacture, assembly, operation, repair, testing, maintenance, or modification of controlled defense articles.

Quad Defense may therefore limit the distribution of certain technical information or documentation when necessary to comply with applicable export-control obligations.

07 // CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITY
