The AB Night Vision MGA is a rugged, full-featured articulating night vision binocular that combines the proven architecture and durability of AB Night Vision's RNVG-A platform with manual gain control.

Machined from 7075 aluminum, the MGA is designed for users who prioritize strength, durability, and reliability in demanding environments. Its articulating architecture provides independent pod movement and automatic pod shutoff while maintaining the robust construction AB Night Vision is known for.

The MGA combines manual gain, onboard CR123A power, external power capability, an integrated IR illuminator, adjustable pod tension, and a low-profile stowed configuration in a professional-grade binocular platform.

Every custom MGA system purchased from Quad Defense is professionally assembled, purged, tested, and verified before shipment and is backed by the QDEF 5-Year Warranty.

Important: The base price does not include image intensifier tubes. Your final system price is determined by the image intensifiers, optics, and available configuration options selected above.

QDEF offers multiple image intensifier performance levels and optical packages, allowing the MGA to be configured around your performance requirements, weight goals, and budget.

All image intensifiers used in QDEF custom builds are hand-selected. If you have specific requirements for SNR, EBI, halo, cosmetics, or other tube specifications, contact us before ordering and we'll help determine current availability.

Manual Gain Control

The MGA uses a rotary control for system power and manual gain adjustment, allowing the user to adjust image brightness directly from the housing when configured with compatible manual-gain image intensifiers.

The housing is designed so assembly does not require removal of the image intensifier flex cables. The design also avoids twisting or crimping the flex during installation, reducing unnecessary handling and potential damage during assembly and service.

Articulating Pod Design

Each optical pod can be independently articulated upward, allowing the user to move one or both pods out of the field of view as conditions require.

When a pod is articulated upward, that pod automatically shuts off. This helps prevent unwanted illumination while operating with a single pod and ensures the image intensifiers are powered down when the system is folded into its low-profile stowed configuration.

When helmet mounted, both pods can be folded back closer to the helmet to reduce overall profile and move system weight closer to the user's head. Pod articulation tension is user adjustable using the supplied pivot tools or a coin.

7075 Aluminum Construction

The MGA housing is billet machined from 7075 aluminum and designed around the durability principles established by AB Night Vision's RNVG family.

AB Night Vision subjected the housing to drop testing beyond the requirements of MIL-STD-810H, including impacts onto concrete. This testing demonstrated the strength of the housing itself even beyond the impact tolerance of other system components such as optics and image intensifiers.

Housing components receive a non-reflective matte finish and are anodized for durability. Flat Dark Earth configurations receive Cerakote over the anodized surface.

Power & Integrated IR

The MGA operates from an onboard CR123A battery and provides approximately 30 hours of runtime under typical operating conditions.

External power is supported through a 4-pin LEMO-style connector, allowing the system to be used with a compatible external battery pack.

An integrated IR illuminator is activated through a dedicated push-button control. Indicators within the viewing area notify the user when the IR illuminator is active and when a low-battery condition is detected.

Optics Options

The MGA can be configured with multiple optical packages depending on your priorities for weight, optical performance, durability, and budget.

• MBS ULR — An ultralight optical package designed to minimize overall system weight.
• Mil-Spec — Traditional mil-spec PVS-14 pattern optics using Carson-pattern glass supplied by Noctis Technologies or Night Vision Devices (NVD), depending on current availability. This option provides proven mil-spec optical performance, durability, and broad compatibility.
• RPO 4.0 — Premium lightweight optics designed to significantly reduce overall system weight while maintaining excellent optical performance.

QDEF Build Process

A custom MGA ordered through Quad Defense is built as a complete night vision system—not simply assembled from selected parts and shipped.

Each QDEF custom build is professionally assembled, inspected, purged, tested, and verified before it leaves our bench. Binocular systems are also evaluated as a complete system with attention paid to image intensifier pairing and overall system performance.

Current lead time for custom QDEF night vision builds is approximately 6–8 business days once all required components are in stock. Special-order components or specific image intensifier requirements may extend that timeline.

Warranty

Complete QDEF-built night vision systems are backed by the Quad Defense 5-Year Warranty.

The AB Night Vision MGA housing also carries AB Night Vision's applicable manufacturer warranty. Manufacturer warranty terms and coverage are determined by AB Night Vision.
